After that, I lightly sanded the surface with an <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/dixie-belle-sanding-sponge\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"131134\">abrasive sponge<\/a>, since it was quite shiny. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the base coat, I\u2019m using <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/dixiebelle-chalk-mineral-paint-barn-red\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"130170\">Barn Red<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/dixiebelle-chalk-mineral-paint-honky-tonk-red\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"130354\">Honkytonk Red<\/a> from Dixie Belle\u2019s Chalk Mineral Paint series. First, I apply a base coat of Barn Red using my Dixie Belle Mini Brush. To do this, I use my <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/dixie-belle-fine-mist-continuous-spray-bottle\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"131137\">spray bottle<\/a>, a small amount of paint, and gentle brushstrokes to blend the shades together. I barely touch the surface with the brush\u2014like butterfly kisses. Today, I decided to go with the approach of applying a solid base color first and then layering the accent color on top. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dixie Belle&#8217;s Chalk Mineral Paints are water-based and blend well together using this technique.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For my shoes, I chose <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/dixiebelle-chalk-mineral-caviar\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"130097\">Caviar<\/a>, a deep black.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"884\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG_0619.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-270440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG_0619.jpeg 884w, https:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG_0619-300x181.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG_0619-768x463.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/IMG_0619-600x362.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 884px) 100vw, 884px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, you mustn&#8217;t forget the sides, the edges, and the areas behind the drawers. Then I decide whether the overall look matches what I had in mind. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The feet have a groove, so I decided on the spot to add a WoodUbend trim to fill it. When heated, they become flexible and can be cut to size and shaped to fit various forms. To attach them, I use Titebond&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/titebond-quick-thick-kleber\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"184006\">Quick &amp; Thick<\/a> wood glue.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though the first coat of paint already provided good coverage, I&#8217;m now applying a second coat using the same technique. Since I was happy with the overall look, this time I&#8217;m painting the drawers separately rather than leaving them in the dresser. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shelf also has a groove where I work in the <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/wood-u-bend-tr0046-trim-borte-leiste-12cm\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"176091\">WoodUbend Trim TR46<\/a>. To do this, I&#8217;ll start by sealing the surface with <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/dixiebelle-wachs-easy-peasy-spray-wax\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"130708\">Easy Peasy Spray Wax<\/a>. It&#8217;s a liquid, water-based wax designed for sealing. The manufacturer specifies a drying time of about 25\u201330 minutes. For larger stencils, I like to use the <a href=\"http:\/\/elfen-und-helden.de\/product\/dixie-belle-pinsel-best-dang-brush\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"180167\">Best Dang Brush<\/a> \u2014especially for lazy people like me. \ud83d\ude09 <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I start by dotting the center first, since there&#8217;s still more paint on the brush. First, I\u2019ll use these to incorporate the stencil more fully into the project. I pick up a little bit of the Caviar at the tip and drag the palette knife from the edges toward the stencil at a shallow angle. I focus mainly on the edges and corners\u2014anywhere I want to create the appearance of wear and tear. I also go over the stenciled area. Although it\u2019s only very slightly raised, if I hold the palette knife completely flat, a little bit of the \u201cMermaid Tail\u201d paint sticks to the raised areas.   <\/p>\n\n<figure Espresso<\/a>. This is an oil-based gel stain that I let dry for at least five days and then seal with a water-based finishing varnish.
