IOD Paint Inlays are the artisanal answer to d\u00e9cor transfers. They are not a decal, they are not a synthetic film, they are not decoupage.<\/p>\n
When you apply an IOD Paint Inlay, color is physically embedded in the surface of your project. After drying, the backing paper is removed, leaving an authentic lacquer design and a buttery, almost leathery surface on your piece.<\/p>\n
IOD Paint Inlays are made from proprietary artist-quality paints that we have formulated specifically for decorative purposes. Organically in nature, the paint inlays transfer the painted design and result in a slightly different and uniquely beautiful aesthetic with each use.<\/p>\n
The results are visually interesting, structurally complex, and often inherently worrying. The paint formula is “active” until it is sealed. This means that you can manipulate it and apply special techniques or an individual touch before sealing your piece.<\/p>\n
And as if once wasn’t enough, you can usually get a nicely faded second impression with the residual pigments on your “other” Paint Inlay sheets. Depending on the techniques and colors you use with your Paint Inlay, sometimes you may even get a third impression!<\/p>\n
IMPORTANT NOTE: For best results in a simple application, use a chalk-like paint that does not contain polymers. (Polymer-based paints and topcoats can also be used, but timing and results vary. So check out our tutorials and more videos on specific techniques soon.)<\/p>\n
