When you apply an IOD Paint Inlay, paint is physically embedded into the surface of your project. Once dry, the backing paper is removed, leaving an authentic paint design and a buttery, almost leather-like finish on your piece.

IOD Paint Inlays are made from proprietary artist quality paints specially formulated for decorative purposes. Organically in nature, the paint inlays transfer the painted design and result in a slightly different and uniquely beautiful aesthetic with each use.

The results are visually interesting, structurally complex, and often inherently worrying. The paint formula is “active” until it is sealed. This means you can manipulate it and apply special techniques or a personalized touch before sealing your piece.

And as if once wasn’t enough, you can usually get a nice faded second impression with the leftover pigments on your “remaining” Paint Inlay sheets. Depending on the techniques and colors you use with your Paint Inlay, you can sometimes even get a third impression!

IMPORTANT NOTE: For best results with an easy application, use a chalk-type paint that does not contain polymers. (Polymer-based paints and topcoats can also be used, but timing and results will vary. See our tutorials and other videos for specific techniques).
