Annie Sloan metal leaf transfer (gilding – impact metal)

Annie Sloan metal leaf transfer (gilding – impact metal)

SKU: AS-ML-TRANSFER

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

Metal leaf transfer is the ideal solution for gilding larger surfaces such as walls, doors or large pieces of furniture. In contrast to loose metal leaf, the metal is applied to a fine carrier material, making it particularly easy to pick up, guide and position the leaf precisely.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ is the original chalk paint for furniture, developed in 1990. The versatile, water-based furniture chalk paint impresses with its exceptional adhesion without sanding or priming.

Chalk Paint™ is suitable for wood, metal, melamine, laminate, concrete, stone, glass and fabric – both indoors and outdoors with the appropriate sealant.

Thanks to its high pigment density, the chalk paint offers excellent coverage, is easy to apply and is ideal for beginners and professionals alike. Perfect for furniture upcycling, creative projects and long-lasting design with character.

Please note that the colors displayed on your screen may vary depending on the screen resolution and color reproduction. It can therefore not be guaranteed that the shades of the colors appear exactly as shown online.

Metal leaf transfer is the ideal solution for gilding larger surfaces such as walls, doors or large pieces of furniture. In contrast to loose metal leaf, the metal is applied to a fine carrier material, making it particularly easy to pick up, guide and position the leaf precisely.

The transfer sheet adheres reliably to a thin backing paper or tissue, which makes work much more controlled – especially on flat, extensive surfaces. This makes this variant ideal for even gilding with less waste and a clean result.

The use of Annie Sloan Gold Size application milk is recommended for the application. This is applied evenly to the desired surface and ensures optimum adhesion of the metal leaf once it has dried. The transfer sheet is then applied, gently pressed on and the backing carefully removed so that the metal remains clean on the surface.

We offer transfer leaf metal in various designs: Imitation gold, imitation silver and copper. These can be used to create classic, elegant looks as well as modern or deliberately imperfect effects.

Product information: Imitation gold is often referred to as “fake gold” and is made of brass. This metal can tarnish over time. To protect the gold-plated surface, a final coat of transparent Chalk Paint™ Wax should be applied.

Imitation silver is made of aluminum. To achieve an authentic vintage silver look, it is recommended to apply a thin layer of transparent Chalk Paint™ Wax after gold plating and then work out light patina effects with dark Chalk Paint™ Wax.

Copper leaf is made of copper, which also tends to tarnish. Here too, a final seal with transparent Chalk Paint™ Wax ensures long-term protection of the metallic effect.

Our transfer sheet metal is available in booklets of 25 sheets. One booklet is sufficient for an area of approx. 0.49 m². Each sheet has a format of 140 mm x 140 mm and is therefore ideal for large-area gilding work.

Transfer leaf metal is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to gild larger areas safely, evenly and with professional results.

Project preparation

Chalk Paint™ is designed to make it as easy as possible for you to get started. In most cases, you can save yourself time-consuming sanding or priming. This is exactly what makes this paint so popular with anyone who prefers to design rather than prepare.

It is only important that the surface is dry, dust-free and free of loose residue. Heavily soiled furniture can be cleaned with clear water. Deliberately avoid aggressive cleaners or degreasers, as these can activate old surfaces and affect the subsequent color appearance.

For very dark, oily or heavily stained wood – such as furniture from the 1930s or 1940s or untreated pine – it may be advisable to work with a suitable barrier primer or shellac beforehand. This will prevent discoloration from seeping through the paint.

High-gloss, varnished or very smooth surfaces only need a light hand sanding to give the paint a good hold. More preparation is generally not necessary.

As with any creative project, the same applies here: A quick test coat on an inconspicuous area will give you confidence – especially with light colors.

Application

Chalk Paint™ is applied directly from the can. Stir well before painting so that the pigments are evenly distributed. If the paint is very thick, you can dilute it with a little water – a small sip is often enough.

The paint adheres reliably to almost all surfaces: Wood, metal, melamine, laminate, stone, concrete, glass and even fabric. Depending on the color, substrate and desired look, one or two coats are usually sufficient.

Flat brushes or rollers are suitable for a smooth, modern finish. If you want more texture, liveliness or a deliberately handcrafted look, Chalk Paint™ brushes are ideal. They leave visible, characterful brush marks that give the furniture depth and expression.

Chalk Paint™ dries quickly and allows you to work quickly. You can often continue working on your project the same day or even seal it.

Whether clear and modern, gently aged, rustic or elegant – Chalk Paint™ adapts to your style, not the other way around.

Sealing

Chalk Paint™ is always sealed after painting. This step protects the surface and determines the feel, look and everyday usability of your piece of furniture.

Chalk Paint™ Wax creates a warm, velvety surface with depth. The color appears slightly more intense and, depending on the polish, can appear matt to silky glossy. Wax is particularly suitable for furniture with low to medium wear and tear and for anyone who loves a natural, handcrafted surface.

Chalk Paint™ Lacquer is recommended for heavy-duty surfaces such as dining tables, kitchen furniture, floors or outdoor furniture. This water-based paint is robust, waterproof and contains UV protection. It reliably preserves the color in everyday use.

Waxed surfaces feel dry quickly, but require a curing time of up to 21 days. You should treat your furniture a little more carefully during this phase. After this, the surface is resilient and durable.

The right sealant ensures that your project not only looks beautiful, but that you can enjoy it for a long time.

Care

Chalk Paint™ surfaces are easy to clean and suitable for everyday use if they have been properly sealed. A dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth is usually sufficient for regular cleaning.

On waxed furniture, heavier traces of use can often be removed with a little clear Chalk Paint™ Wax on a soft cloth. The wax acts like a gentle eraser and refreshes the surface at the same time.

Avoid aggressive cleaners, alcohol or sprays with solvents, as they can attack the wax layer. Frequent use of household cleaners can also lead to a surface needing to be re-waxed at some point.

Use coasters, felt pads and heat protection to protect your furniture in the long term. Chalk Paint™ surfaces don’t like extreme heat, high humidity or strong temperature fluctuations any more than we do.

The beauty of Chalk Paint™ is that small marks are part of it. And if you want, they can be easily repaired at any time or deliberately integrated into the character of the furniture.
