How to Use Belles & Whistles Stencils – Step by Step

With Belles & Whistles stencils, you can use different colors and textured media to add unique patterns and decorative effects to your projects.

1. preparation of the surface:

• Cleaning: The surface to be decorated should be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, and other residues.
• Smoothing: Depending on the substrate and the desired result, any unevenness can be smoothed out by sanding before applying the finish.
• Primer: Depending on the surface, a suitable primer may be required or recommended. Please refer to the respective product and manufacturer instructions.

2. placement of the template:

• Positioning: Place the stencil where you want it and secure it with painter’s tape, for example. Alternatively, you can use a suitable removable stencil adhesive or carefully hold the stencil in place with your hand while you work.

3rd color application:

• Color selection: Depending on the project, you can use chalk paints, acrylic paints, or metallic paints, for example.
• Technique: Use a stencil brush or a suitable sponge and apply the paint sparingly using dabbing motions. Too much paint can seep under the stencil and blur the outlines.

4. 3D stenciling (raised stenciling):

• Materials: For raised designs, paste-like media such as texturing pastes can be used.
• Directions: Apply the paste over the stencil using a spatula. Carefully remove the stencil while the paste is still wet, and then let the design dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

5. post-processing:

• Let it dry: Allow the paint or paste you used to dry thoroughly before continuing.
• Sealing: Depending on the project, the materials used, and the expected wear and tear, the finished surface can be sealed with a suitable clear varnish or wax.

6. cleaning the stencil:

• Clean the stencil after use according to the type of paint or textured medium used. For water-based products, water and mild soap may be suitable for cleaning, depending on the product. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
