Dixie Belle Terra Clay Paint is a clay-based paint designed for creative furniture and design projects. Its non-self-leveling consistency allows for intentionally visible brush strokes and textured surfaces. The paint remains reactive to water until it is sealed, allowing it to be reworked during the design process.

Careful preparation lays a solid foundation for your creative project. Start by thoroughly cleaning the surface to remove dust, grease, and other residue. You can use a suitable cleaner such as White Lightning, Pristine Clean, or Terra Clean by Dixie Belle.
The necessary preparation for Dixie Belle Terra Clay Paint depends on the material and condition of the surface. For very smooth, non-absorbent, or problematic surfaces, light sanding or a suitable primer may be required.
Stir the paint thoroughly before use. Follow the manufacturer’s current instructions when preparing the surface, applying the paint, and, if necessary, sealing it.

Depending on the project, it is possible to create both thinner layers of paint and intentionally textured surfaces. Multiple layers of paint can be combined and, once dry, further processed using the desired technique.

For additional textural effects, Terra Clay Paint can be mixed with a suitable texture additive . Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s application instructions.
Drying Time and Layers

Sealing
Depending on the project and the desired final treatment, an appropriate sealer can be used. Please refer to the current manufacturer’s instructions for Terra Clay Paint and the respective finishing product.
With Terra Clay Paint, you can experiment with visible brush strokes, layering, color gradients, and different textures to personalize furniture and other suitable creative projects.
After applying the final brushstroke, patience is key: Let the paint dry for 6 to 12 hours —or, ideally, overnight—before continuing. Keep in mind that the actual drying time may vary depending on temperature, humidity, the surface, and the thickness of the coating.

Note on water-based sealers: Apply the sealer in thin, even coats and avoid excessive brushing of the surface during application. Since Terra Clay Paint can be reactivated with water, the underlying paint may be reactivated when a water-based sealer is applied, which can alter the desired finish. Therefore, be sure to follow the current application instructions for the sealer you are using.
Choose the right sealant: Terra Seal gives you a matte finish, while Terra Tuff gives the surface a satin finish. Which sealant is right for your project depends on the desired surface effect and the intended use.
Care Instructions for Dixie Belle Terra Clay Paint
Since Terra Clay Paint can be reactivated with water, you should protect unsealed surfaces from moisture. Before sealing, it is recommended that you simply dust the surface gently with a dry cloth and avoid cleaning it with a damp cloth.
Care after sealing
How the finished surface can be cleaned and used depends on the sealer used and whether it has fully cured. Therefore, be sure to follow the specific care, drying, and curing instructions for the finish product you are using.
