IOD Decor Mould Harper is a silicone mold for decorative reliefs and custom furniture, decorative, and creative projects. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, it can be used with suitable modeling and casting materials.

IOD Molds are flexible silicone molds for creative furniture upcycling, decoration, and DIY projects. With them, you can create detailed ornaments, reliefs, and decorative elements using materials such as air-drying clay, paper clay, or casting resin, and use them to personalize furniture, home accessories, and mixed-media projects.

According to the manufacturer, the flexible molds are made of food-safe silicone and reproduce even the finest details of each design. In addition to craft materials, IOD Molds can also be used for foods such as chocolate, fondant, or dough. Use separate molds for food and for crafts, and do not mix these uses.

Please note that the colors displayed on your screen may vary depending on the screen resolution and color reproduction. It can therefore not be guaranteed that the shades of the colors appear exactly as shown online.

Preparation and Use of IOD Molds / Silicone Molds:

  • Before using your IOD molds for the first time, clean them with warm water and a little mild dish soap, then let them dry completely.
  • According to the manufacturer, IOD Molds are made of food-safe silicone. However, be sure to use separate molds for food and for crafts, and do not mix these uses.
  • Work on a clean, flat surface and make sure that no dust or other debris gets into the mold.
  • When using casting resins and other casting materials, follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding application and whether a release agent is required or appropriate.

Step-by-step instructions for using IOD Moulds:

  1. Selection of the medium:
    • Depending on the application, IOD Molds can be used with various suitable materials, such as air-drying clay, paperclay, casting resin, soap, wax, or modeling compounds.
    • Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the material you are using, as materials vary in terms of processing, flexibility, shrinkage, and curing.
  2. Working with air-drying clay / paperclay:
    • IOD Paperclay is an air-drying paper-based medium.
    • Slight shrinkage, warping, or fine cracking may occur during drying and can be intentionally used in creative projects to achieve an aged, vintage look.
    • Carefully press the clay into the mold and work the material into the details.
    • Ideally, remove the molded part while it’s still slightly damp and attach it to your project using an adhesive suitable for the material and surface.
    • On vertical surfaces, the ornament can be temporarily secured with low-tack adhesive tape until the adhesive has set sufficiently.
  3. Working with casting resins:
    • Processing, curing, and any dimensional changes depend on the casting resin used. Please refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific product.
    • If you want to adapt an ornament to a curved surface, depending on the resin you’re using, you can remove it from the mold during an appropriate stage of curing and carefully adjust it. Be sure to follow the resin manufacturer’s instructions.
    • Strictly adhere to the manufacturer’s specified mixing ratio for the resin and hardener.
    • Use the casting resin in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions regarding storage and shelf life.
    • Do not use open flames or hot air blowers to remove air bubbles from the silicone mold. Instead, follow the processing instructions for the casting resin you are using.
  4. Demolding:
    • To remove the part from the mold, the flexible silicone mold can be gently bent away from the finished part.
    • When working with clay, lightly dusting the mold with cornstarch or arrowroot starch can make it easier to remove the piece from the mold.
    • When using casting resins, the choice of a mold release agent depends on the specific resin and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Sealing & further processing of the molded parts:

  • Further processing and sealing depend on the medium used and the specific project.
  • Once they are completely dry or cured, the molded parts can be sanded, painted, or given a patina, for example, depending on the material.
  • Whether a final sealant is necessary or desired depends on the medium used, the design, and the intended use. Depending on the project, suitable water-based varnishes or waxes can be used, for example.
  • For high-traffic areas or projects exposed to moisture, the sealant should be selected based on the material used and the intended application.

Care & Storage of Your IOD Molds:

  • Clean the molds promptly after each use with warm water and a mild detergent.
  • Do not use sharp tools, scouring pads, or harsh cleaning agents.
  • Allow the molds to dry completely before storing them.
  • Store IOD Moulds flat and away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Proper cleaning and storage help preserve the elasticity and fine details of the silicone molds.
