IOD Decor Transfer Flora Greca combines classic-style botanical illustrations with decorative frames, flowers, birds, fruits, and delicate insect motifs. The elements can be used individually or as larger arrangements for furniture upcycling, wall panels, and creative projects. The set includes 8 sheets, each measuring approximately 20.3 x 30.5 cm.

Surface preparation for transfers (furniture transfers, scratch-off transfers, self-adhesive films):

  • Thoroughly clean the surface to remove dust, grease, and other residues.
  • On wood and furniture surfaces, uneven areas can be smoothed out by sanding before painting.
  • Depending on the product, transfers can be applied to painted surfaces as well as to suitable smooth surfaces such as glass, metal, ceramic, or plastic. Please follow the respective manufacturer’s instructions. Painted surfaces must be completely dry or cured according to the manufacturer’s instructions before applying the transfer.
  • For very porous paint finishes, it may be advisable to apply a thin layer of a suitable water-based sealer before applying the transfer. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the transfer and sealer.
  • Caution: Do not use wax before applying a transfer, as it may impair adhesion.
  • For glass, metal, ceramic, or plastic, the surface must be clean, dry, and free of grease and dust. Use a cleaning agent suitable for the specific surface.

Step-by-step instructions for using IOP transfers:

  1. Preparation of the surface:
    • The surface must be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, and other residues. Use a cleaning agent suitable for the specific surface.
    • For painted or varnished surfaces, the coating should be completely dry or cured in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions before applying the transfer.
    • For very porous paint finishes, it may be advisable to apply a thin coat of a suitable water-based sealer before applying the transfer. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for both the transfer and the sealer you are using. Do not use wax before applying the transfer.
  2. Selection and cropping of the transfer:
    • Select the desired transfer motif and cut it to size if required.
    • You can cut out individual parts of the transfer and arrange them as you like to customize the design for your project.
  3. Attaching the transfer:
    • Carefully remove the protective film from the back of the transfer, taking care to avoid contact with the adhesive side as much as possible.
    • Carefully position the design where you want it. Once the transfer makes contact with the surface, it can be difficult to reposition it afterward, and doing so may damage the design.
    • Use the application tool provided and rub the transfer evenly onto the surface. Start at one spot and gradually work your way across the entire design.
  4. Remove the backing film:
    • Carefully and slowly lift the transparent backing film. If part of the design has not yet been fully transferred, put the film back down and rub over that area again.
  5. Post-processing:
    • After transferring the design, gently press it down with a soft, clean cloth.
    • Using the Dixie Belle Finishing Pad or Burnishing Pad, you can gently refine the edges of the design in particular, helping them blend more seamlessly into the surface.
    • To achieve a vintage or used look, the transfer can be carefully sanded, depending on the desired effect.
  6. Sealing:
    • Depending on the project and expected wear and tear, the transfer can then be protected with a suitable water-based sealer. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for both the transfer and the sealer you are using. You can choose the finish that best suits your project.

Tips:

  • Depending on the product and how it is prepared, IOD transfers can be used on various suitable surfaces, such as wood, metal, glass, ceramic, and painted or varnished surfaces. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

After the final step, you’ll need to be patient:

Let your project dry thoroughly before continuing. Depending on the product you’re using and the environmental conditions, it may be best to let it dry for 24 hours or overnight. Please also refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for the transfer material used and the underlying coating.

Protection for Your Project:

Depending on the transfer, the substrate, and the subsequent wear and tear, a final sealant application may be advisable or recommended by the manufacturer. Use a sealant that is compatible with the transfer and the underlying products.

You can choose the finish that best suits your project:

  • Matt: For a subtle, matte look.
  • Satin finish: For a subtle sheen.
  • Glossy: For a shinier finish.

For projects subject to heavier use or surfaces exposed to moisture, additional protection may be advisable, depending on the application. For this purpose, options include, for example, Extra Coat or Gator Hide . Be sure to follow the respective manufacturer’s instructions and check that the product is suitable for your project.

Important: Highly durable sealants such as Gator Hide or Extra Coat may react with the transfer surface or the adhesive, depending on the transfer and the product system used. If you want to use such an additional protective layer, first seal the transfer with a compatible top coat. Let it dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and then apply Gator Hide or Extra Coat.

The choice of sealant depends on the transfer used, the substrate, the level of wear and tear, and the desired finish.

Maintaining Your Transfer Project:

With the right care, you can gently maintain the designed and sealed surface of your transfer project in everyday use. Always be sure to follow the care instructions for the transfer and the sealant you used.

1. gentle cleaning

  • Avoid harsh cleaning products and abrasive sponges, as they can damage the surface or the sealant.
  • For dust and light soiling, a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth is usually sufficient. For heavier soiling, a mild soap solution may be used, depending on the type of sealant applied.

2. Dealing with Moisture

  • For projects in kitchens, bathrooms, or other areas with high humidity, the sealant used should be suitable for the specific application.
  • Wipe up spills as soon as possible and avoid leaving moisture standing.

3. Reduce mechanical stress

  • For frequently used furniture surfaces, felt pads placed under decorative items and other objects can help prevent scratches and indentations.

4. Touch up the surface as needed

  • Whether and how a sealed surface can be refreshed or resealed later depends on the sealing product used. Please refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for more information.

5. Direct sunlight

  • Prolonged, intense exposure to sunlight can cause colors and surfaces to change or fade over time.
  • If possible, place your project so that it is not constantly exposed to intense direct sunlight.
