Miracle Medium™ Oil Paint Medium MM1 is a solvent-free, vegan oil medium from Michael Harding that improves the flow, transparency and gloss of oil paints while accelerating drying. It is particularly suitable for glazes, fine detail work and controlled layer painting.

Miracle Medium™ Oil Paint Medium MM1 by Michael Harding is a solvent-free, plant-based, and vegan oil medium designed to influence the flow, transparency, gloss, and depth of oil paints. The formula is based on a combination of Miracle Medium™ and linseed oil stand oil.
MM1 makes it easier to mix, blend, and apply oil paints and produces an even, smooth surface with a slightly glossy finish. According to the manufacturer, the medium also promotes faster drying and is suitable for layered painting, glazing techniques, and detailed work.
The solvent-free formulation allows for versatile applications, while transparency and color effect can be specifically controlled.
Careful project preparation lays a solid foundation for controlled paint application in oil painting. Even before you begin painting, you should ensure that the painting surface, paints, and technique are well-coordinated.
The surface should be suitable for oil painting and properly prepared. Canvas, wood, or painting panels are usually primed with a suitable primer to prepare the surface for further work and to minimize excessive penetration of the binder into the substrate.
The choice of materials also plays an important role. Suitable oil paints, appropriate painting media, and clean tools make it easier to work with precision. It is advisable to plan the color palette in advance and take into account characteristics such as transparency, pigment type, and oil content.
Thorough preparation makes the creative process easier and gives you the freedom to focus on color, expression, and your artistic choices.
Miracle Medium™ Oil Paint Medium MM1 is mixed directly with oil paints to specifically increase fluidity, transparency and gloss. Place a small amount of the medium on the palette next to the paint and mix in with a brush or painting knife.
Start with a mixing ratio of about 1 part medium to 4 parts paint. According to the manufacturer, the total proportion of medium should not exceed 5–10%. The medium increases the paint’s fluidity and is particularly suitable for glazes and thin coats of paint.
When applied, the medium promotes an even, controlled flow of paint and facilitates smooth transitions, precise lines, and transparent layering. For multi-layer works, allow each layer to dry thoroughly before applying the next one.
To clean, first wipe off any excess paint. Tools can then be cleaned with Miracle Medium or a suitable solvent and then washed out with water and mild soap.
No sealing is required during the painting process. A final varnish should only be applied once the finished oil painting is completely dry. Depending on the layer thickness and paint application, this can take several months to a year.
Finished pieces should be protected from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Use a soft, dry cloth for care and cleaning. Avoid using damp cleaning agents or chemical cleaners.
