MM2 Quick Dry Dammar Glaze from Michael Harding is a traditionally inspired, solvent-free and vegan glazing medium specially developed for transparent color layers, glazes and increased depth. It is a modern alternative to classic dammar glaze mediums and combines tried and tested materials with a contemporary, solvent-free formula.
The medium improves the color flow, increases transparency and gives the pigments a clear, high-gloss surface. Thanks to the cobalt-free dryer it contains, MM2 moderately accelerates the drying of the ink layers without impairing the luminosity or stability of the ink film.
MM2 is particularly suitable for glazing techniques, fine detail work and the layered build-up of transparent color levels. Thin, luminous layers can be built up in a controlled manner and dry faster than with classic glazing media, allowing you to work quickly between layers.
Careful project preparation is the basis for stable, long-lasting results in oil painting. The painting surface, colors and working method should be consciously coordinated before you start painting.
The surface must be suitable and prepared. Canvas, wood or painting boards should be primed to ensure even adhesion and to prevent the binder from penetrating.
The choice of materials is also crucial. High-quality oil paints, suitable media and clean tools facilitate controlled work. It is advisable to plan the color palette in advance and consider properties such as transparency, pigment type and oil content.
Thoughtful preparation creates calm in the process and gives you the freedom to concentrate fully on color, expression and artistic decisions.
MM2 Quick Dry Dammar Glaze is mixed directly with the oil paint to specifically increase transparency, gloss and flow behavior. Provide a small amount of the medium on the palette next to the paint. The medium is concentrated, so use sparingly.
A mixing ratio of approximately 1 part medium to 4 parts paint is a proven starting point. The total proportion of medium should not exceed 5-10 %, as a higher dosage can impair the stability of the paint film.
The paint mixed with MM2 is particularly suitable for thin, transparent glazes. When applied, it produces even, luminous coats with a high-gloss finish. Thanks to the cobalt-free dryer, these coats dry more quickly, allowing you to work efficiently in several layers.
Each layer should be allowed to dry completely between coats to preserve the clarity and depth of the glazes. MM2 is also ideal for fine details when transparent, precise color applications are desired.
Wipe off excess paint and medium after painting. Tools can be cleaned with Miracle Medium, turpentine or White Spirit and then washed out with water and mild soap.
No sealing is required during the painting process. A final varnish should only be applied once the finished oil painting is completely dry. Depending on the layer thickness and paint application, this can take several months to a year.
Finished works should be protected from direct sunlight, high humidity and strong temperature fluctuations. A soft, dry cloth is sufficient for care and cleaning. Damp cleaning agents or chemical substances should be avoided.
