Workshop 101 Basic Course – Bring Your Own Furniture – 4 Hour Course

Do you have a piece of furniture at home that needs a makeover and don’t know where to start? Let me help you! This is my favorite workshop – bring your own furniture and create your own unique piece. Find out how to achieve a fantastic result with your favorite color and wax combination!

Are you new to painting furniture? Don’t worry! I will guide you through the process from start to finish! I’m sure you’ll create a beautiful hand-painted masterpiece!

What we will cover in the workshop:

Basic color application:

How to apply the paint correctly to your project.

Distressing:

This isn’t for everyone, but we’ll discuss the best methods and techniques, as well as the places where distressed looks best on furniture. You can practice this in the course on a piece of wood. Due to time constraints, distress is limited to edges only.

Seal your project:

How to seal and protect your furniture with either clear wax or topcoat, including the most appropriate tools, as well as my expert tips and tricks.

Set accents in your project:

Learn about the aging of your project with colored waxes – brown, black, gray or white. (Growing strong or full-surface accents can be demonstrated, but since we have limited time, please plan to apply more wax to your project at home.)

Curing:

Learn the importance of letting the surface harden and how to take care of your project when you bring it home.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES:

• Bring a small piece of furniture or two to three small kitchen cabinet doors. Small tables are ideal for this course, or perhaps cabinet doors or drawers made of a larger piece of furniture that you want to design at home. If you can’t carry the piece in alone, without help and all at once, it’s too big! I reserve the right to reject pieces that are too large to be completed in this workshop.
• This workshop is best suited for wooden furniture or cabinets. Due to the additional drying time, laminate, melamine, ceramic and metal surfaces are not recommended for this course.
• In this course, you will learn how to seal your project with wax or a regular topcoat. Please bring a project for indoor use. I don’t recommend bringing an outdoor piece.
• Pieces with slats, multiple spindles or shutters take a lot of time! It’s best to avoid bringing them with you.
• You will use my colors and materials! You can choose up to 2 paint colors from my extensive color selection. I strongly recommend that you think about what color you want to paint your piece in beforehand. If you’re undecided, I’m happy to help.
• Individual mixing of colors, strong distressing, application of molds, decoupage or the addition of transfers are not covered in this course (you can learn this in my workshop “102: Techniques for Design and Style” or in my private workshop).
• Mishaps happen, so please no mirrors or glass.
• MOST IMPORTANT: This is a hands-on workshop. Please come in clothes that are allowed to get color!

I recommend that you arrive 15 minutes early to take your seat and settle in, as this will be helpful for the rest of the process.

The workshop fee is per person. Due to the space constraints in my workshop area, I ask that friends, partners, children, mothers, etc. do not bring with me unless they have also purchased a workshop ticket and are bringing their own project. Thank you for your understanding.

The fee for this course is € 150.00, an advance payment is required. Your place in the workshop will only be confirmed after payment has been made! This workshop lasts 3 to 4 hours.

IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL:

The course is non-refundable, but can be postponed (once) within 90 days to another date! If you need to make a new appointment, you can do so up to 72 hours before the start of the course.

Less than 72 hours before the workshop date, there will be no refund and no possibility to book another appointment.

If you do not show up for the workshop, you are not entitled to a refund or rebooking.

In the unlikely event that a workshop has to be cancelled, you have the choice between a full refund or the option to book an alternative workshop. If a workshop has to be cancelled, you will be informed as early as possible.

The lessons take place in the studio of Elfen & Helden, Sylvester-Jordan-Str. 4, 35039 Marburg.
