Preparation

• The surface must be clean, dry, and fully cured.
• If you’ve used chalk paint or other types of paint, let them dry completely before applying Gator Hide.

Before Use

Always stir Gator Hide thoroughly—never shake it!

Shaking can cause air bubbles to form, which will later become visible in the finish.

Order

You can apply Gator Hide in several ways:

• High-quality synthetic brush
• Sponge
• Applicator pad
• Foam roller
• Foam N Dandy Roller

Always apply the varnish evenly in the direction of the wood grain.

When applying with a brush, it’s best to be a little more generous and keep a “wet edge.” This will help you avoid visible brush strokes.

Important: Do not keep painting over areas that have already dried, as this can cause blisters.

Between Shifts

Let each coat dry for about 2 hours.

Before applying the next coat, lightly sand the surface (using fine-grit sandpaper, approximately 320–400 grit).

If the sandpaper clogs or smears, Gator Hide needs a little more drying time.

After sanding, carefully remove the sanding dust.

Number of shifts

For optimal protection, Dixie Belle recommends:

3 thin layers

This creates a particularly durable and water-repellent surface.

Drying and Curing Time

• Touch-dry after about 2 hours
• Fully cured after 21–30 days

During the curing period, handle the surface as gently as possible and do not place heavy objects on it for extended periods of time.

Cleaning the Tools

Clean tools immediately after use with:

• warm water
• and Scrubby Soap or a mild soap

Clean thoroughly.

Tips for the Best Results

✔ Always stir well; never shake.
✔ Several thin layers are better than one thick one.
✔ Lightly sand between coats.
✔ Do not operate in conditions of high humidity or very low temperatures.
✔ Handle with care—avoid contact with water and heavy loads—until the material has fully cured.

This gives you an exceptionally durable, hard-wearing surface—ideal for tabletops, kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, and other high-traffic furniture.
