Always start by thoroughly cleaning the surface—use a cleaner suitable for the surface, such as White Lightning, Pristin Clean, or Terra Clean by Dixiebelle, provided it is suitable for your surface. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application and for removing any residue from the cleaner. Before bonding, the surface should be clean, dry, free of oil and grease, and structurally sound. There must be no layer of wax under the bonded area.

You can also apply WoodUbend to surfaces that have already been painted, such as chalk paint or acrylic paint. The paint must be dry and firmly adhered; the area to be adhered must be free of oil and wax.   2. Adhesion: Apply wood glue suitable for the surface according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The surface must be clean, dry, free of oil and grease, and stable. There must be no wax layer beneath the area to be glued. WoodUbend can also be applied to previously painted surfaces, such as chalk paint or acrylic paint, provided the paint is dry and firmly adhered. For glass, metal, wood, concrete, or fabric, check the adhesive’s suitability and test its adhesion. We recommend Posh Chalk WoodUglue; follow its application instructions.
  3. Adjust: Carefully press the heated ornament into place and position it as desired. If necessary, reheat it without overheating it. Once it cools, it will harden again.

The Right Sealer for Your WoodUbend Project

Uncoated WoodUbend ornaments have a porous surface. Choose a finish that is suitable for the paint you’re using, the surface you’re applying it to, and how the ornament will be used.

After shaping: Drying and curing

Allow the adhesive and paint to dry or cure according to the respective manufacturers’ instructions before applying another coat. The required times depend on the products used and the environmental conditions; a general waiting period of 24 hours does not apply to every application.

Sealants for Your Project

Whether an additional sealant is required and which product is suitable depends on the existing coating and the intended use:

  • Low-traffic indoor projects: Depending on the coating, a suitable clear varnish or wax may be used as a final surface treatment. Be sure to check compatibility and follow the application instructions. Apply wax only after the pieces have been glued together; there must be no layer of wax under the glued area.
  • Surfaces subject to heavier wear: For projects in the kitchen, bathroom, or outdoors, check that the substrate, adhesive, and coating are suitable for the specific conditions. For products such as Extra Coat or Gator Hide , follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding the permissible scope of use and application. An additional coat of varnish alone does not guarantee water resistance or suitability for outdoor use.

Different levels of shine to suit your style

  • Matt: For a simple look.
  • Satin finish: For a subtle sheen.
  • Shiny: For a shiny finish.

Select the level of shine from the range of products suitable for your application. First, test the effect and skin compatibility on an inconspicuous area, and follow the specified drying and curing times.

How to Care for Your WoodUbend Project

How you care for your ornaments and appliqués depends on the type of paint or sealant used. Follow the care instructions and test any cleaning products on an inconspicuous area first.

1. gentle cleaning

  • Remove dust with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh, highly acidic, or abrasive cleaning agents, as well as coarse sponges.
  • Use a slightly damp cloth or a mild soap solution only if the applied coating is suitable for this. Then gently wipe dry, and avoid rubbing hard on fine details.

2. protection from moisture

  • When using this product in a bathroom or kitchen, check to make sure the substrate, adhesive, and coating are suitable for the moisture conditions in those areas. An additional coat of paint alone does not guarantee water resistance. Avoid standing water and prolonged moisture penetration.
  • Wipe up spilled liquids right away with a soft cloth and gently dry the surface.

3. refresh if necessary

  • For minor surface damage, first check the condition of the ornamentation, fastenings, and coating. To touch up the damage, use a paint or sealant that is compatible with the existing finish, and follow the relevant preparation instructions.
  • Protect fine details from impacts and bending stress. WoodUbend hardens again after cooling; once applied, the ornaments cannot be reshaped at will.

If you want to change the color scheme, check whether the existing paint is suitable for repainting and follow the instructions for the new coating product.
