Miracle Medium™ Oil Paint Medium MM1 is a solvent-free, vegan oil medium from Michael Harding that improves the flow, transparency and gloss of oil paints while accelerating drying. It is particularly suitable for glazes, fine detail work and controlled layer painting.
Refined Linseed Oil is suitable both for direct mixing with oil paints and for working with dry pigments. It is a classic, proven binder for oil painting and supports traditional painting techniques as well as contemporary working methods.

Michael Harding’s Refined Linseed Oil is an alkali-refined, light-colored linseed oil extracted from flax seeds and used in many of Michael Harding’s artist oil paints. It can make oil paints more pliable, enhance their luster and transparency, and reduce visible brushstrokes.
Linseed oil forms a stable paint film as it dries. Because of its natural color, using too much oil can lead to slight yellowing over time, which is why it is recommended to use it sparingly and judiciously.

Careful project preparation lays a solid foundation for controlled paint application in oil painting. Even before you begin painting, you should ensure that the painting surface, paints, and technique are well-coordinated.
The surface should be suitable for oil painting and properly prepared. Canvas, wood, or painting panels are usually primed with a suitable primer to prepare the surface for further work and to minimize excessive penetration of the binder into the substrate.
The choice of materials also plays an important role. Suitable oil paints, appropriate painting media, and clean tools make it easier to work with precision. It is advisable to plan your color palette in advance and take into account characteristics such as transparency, pigment type, and oil content.
Thorough preparation makes the creative process easier and gives you the freedom to focus on color, expression, and your artistic choices.
Refined linseed oil is mixed directly into oil paint to improve its flow, transparency, and sheen. Even small amounts can alter the paint’s consistency. Avoid using too much oil, as this can significantly delay drying and may cause yellowing or wrinkling.
When working according to the “fat-over-lean” principle, linseed oil is gradually incorporated into the upper layers of paint. The first layers should contain as little oil as possible. In the subsequent layers, the oil content can be slowly increased.
Controlled application of paint is especially recommended for oil-rich mixtures. Each coat should be allowed to dry thoroughly before applying the next one. Refined linseed oil extends the drying time, thereby allowing for a longer open time.
No sealing is required during the painting process. A final varnish should only be applied once the finished oil painting is completely dry. Depending on the layer thickness and paint application, this can take several months to a year.
Finished pieces should be protected from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Use a soft, dry cloth for care and cleaning. Avoid using damp cleaning agents or chemical cleaners.
